Freddie Mercury is an icon in the music industry, famous thanks to his work with the band Queen. Freddie Mercury is known for his incredible stage presence, distinctive voice, and flamboyant style. However, he also challenged norms during his lifetime. As a gay man, he was often criticized by the society, but Freddie Mercury refused to hide who he was. His music continues to inspire and his courage gave many within the LGBTQ community the strength to be true to themselves.
Bayard Rustin has been a civil rights activist for over 60 years. He co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and was the lead organizer for the March on Washington in 1963. Bayard Rustin was also openly gay, and discrimination against homosexuals was, unfortunately, something he faced in addition to racism. Despite these challenges, he continued to fight for minority rights.
